46 MW Upper Balephi Hydropower inks power purchase agreement with NEA

KATHMANDU, Nov 22: Upper Balephi Hydropower Project, an entity operating within the Energy Business of Golyan Group, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).


On Tuesday, NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising and Chairman of Upper Balephi Hydropower Umesh Kasaju inked the agreement in this regard. The 46 MW run-of-river hydropower project has been proposed for construction along the Balephi River of Sindhupalchowk District in Bagmati Province.

The hydropower project is located approximately 126 km northeast of the capital and about 40 km north of the Arniko Highway. The gross head of the project is 438.5 m, with a design discharge of 12.70 cubic meters per second. The project is expected to generate dry energy of 86.019 GWh and wet energy of 188.69 GWh.


Golyan Group has invested in renewable energy with a plan to contribute 900 MW, aiming to enhance the country's sustainability portfolio in the next decade. Apart from renewable energy, the group has been involved in businesses related to agriculture, construction, hospitality, financial services and manufacturing sectors, reads a press statement issued by the Golyan Group.
