ACHCHHAM, March 3: Women in rural areas of the country generally choose to suffer in silence than to express their problems when it comes to health issue. Their 'hidden agony' comes to the surface only when the problem gets out of proportion.
Despite the government running programs to combat health problems, it is still very common in the hills and the plains for women to hide their health hazards. In Achham Distirct Hospital, 42 women underwent free surgery during a 6-day health camp that ended on Thursday.
Women who gave birth to children between two to 16 in number went through the operation. According to Ram Bahadur Malla, manager of the camp, women suffering from Hepatitis B, HIV and those who had negative blood group were referred to Kohalpur for the surgery due to technical reasons. “We referred 10 women to Kohalpur,” he said. “Their case is complex due to the health condition and the equipment we used during the camp would not be sufficient for their treatment,” he added.

Early motherhood, giving birth to babies without proper gap, lack of nutrition and health care and too much of physical work have taken toll on women's health in Accham and other backward districts, Malla noted.
“Most of the women who came for the surgery were between 30 to 40 years and they had too many children by that age,” he informed, adding that shyness has kept many other problem from sharing their problems with doctors.
