KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Police have arrested three people for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman in Thamel on Tuesday night.
Nawaraj Gurung, 18, of Gorkha; Som Tamang, 17, of Kavre; and Manoj Thapa Magar were arrested soon after the victim alerted police following the incident at around 11 pm.

Preliminary investigation of the police has shown that the victim was lured by the alleged perpetrators into their hotel room promising her of shelter in the cold night.
“The investigation into the case has revealed that the woman was lured by the alleged culprits who offered the victim a shelter for the night,” said SSP Basant Lama, chief of the Metropolitan Police Range Office (MPRO), Kathmandu.
DSP Hobindra Bogati of the MPRO told Republica that the men shared hard drinks with the woman before raping her. He added that the woman was seen around Thamel area multiple times before the incident.
“It seems as if the woman was befriended by the boys in the evening after which they lured her into taking a shelter in their room,” DSP Bogati said. He added that the police are currently investigating whether the three arrestees were related to each other and whether the rape was pre-planned.
A police team led by chief of Lainchaur Police Circle DSP Gautam Kumar KC arrested the three alleged culprits at around 11:30 pm after the victim called the police. Police are currently investigating into the case and a medical examination of the alleged rapists has already been conducted.
