The inauguration of the Debate Fest was held at Chelsea International Academy on Friday, February 24. [break]
Nine colleges, namely, Graded English Medium School (GEMS), Kathmandu Academy, Saipal Academy, Rato Bangla School (RBS), Smart Club, NASA, Orient, and Chelsea International Academy, with three students from each participated in the competition.
The closing ceremony was held on Sunday, February 26 at Alfa Beta Complex, Buddha Nagar.
Rato Bangla School’s Apeskshya Prasai, Abhigya Maskey, and Samikshya Siwakoti and Chelsea International Academy’s Binam Ghimire, Bijay Sapkota and Rhythm Upreti competed in the final round of the championship after winning three and four pre-debates respectively.
The motion of the final debate was “Dependency upon remittance is harmful for the national economy.”
Team Chelsea said that they learnt a lot about the WSDC format and at the same time their debating experience was exciting along with widening of perception after listening to many teams’ arguments. At the same time, Team RBS opines that the competition was tough yet very informative, too.

Rato Bangla School was the winning team of the festival. They will be attending Idea-Asia Youth Forum’s workshop in Thailand from May
14 to 27.
Avishek Shrestha, advisor to NDI, debate facilitator and judge, said, “They are new to the format and they got only two days of training yet they have picked up tremendously and the speakers are really good. I can see the effort they have put in to understand the WSDC format.”
Other judges were also members of NDI and a top debater of previous Chelsea Debate Fest, Rijan Lal Mulmi.
