BANIYANI, July 13: Various settlements in Jhapa district have been inundated with the floods caused by the torrential rain occurred for three days.
The inundation has resulted in the death of two persons while one is missing and many others are displaced. The flooded Kankai River inundated 78 households at Milanbasti of Jhapa rural municipality-1. It has adversely affected the daily life of the people.

Similarly, 110 households in Shivakoti, Mansapur and Champapur villages have also been inundated owing to the flooded rivulets, said Nepal Red Cross Society. Food entered Santhal village and nine households of Korobari Anpgachhi from Gaurijung rural municipality-1, said Red Cross President Lokraj Dhakal. The people from the waterlogged houses have moved to their relatives' homes. Suphal Hasda, 41, from Duhagadi of Mechinagar-14 has gone missing in the flooded rivulet.
The physically disabled Hasda was swept away while crossing the rivulet. Similarly, 125 households in Mechinagar-5 are waterlogged. The Kankai River flood also inundated 14 houses at Tarabari of Shivasatakshi-3 in the district, said the Red Cross, adding that the water level has receded in the rivers as Kankail, Biring, Mawa, Tangting, Kamal and Baniyani, of late.
