The bus (Na 2 Kha 5505), which was heading for Fhoksintar from Gaighat, the district headquarters, veered off the road and fell some 100 meter down into Andhari river at around 10:45 am, said the police. [break]
The deceased have been identified as Bishnu Rai, 38, of Khabu VDC-2 and Shubharaj Rai, 50, of Batase VDC in Khotang, according to Udayapur District Police Office.
Shubharaj died on the spot while Bishnu breathed his last while being rushed to hospital for treatment, said inspector Shree Krishna Poudel.
Of the 29 injured, the condition of 12 passengers is critical. They have been taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science in Dharan for treatment, said Poudel.
Bus driver Tek Bahadur Rai is at large following the incident.
