KATHMANDU, Nov 30: A total of eighteen individuals from Nepal have been selected for the Australia Awards Scholarships for Intake 2025. The Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Leann Johnston, and Acting Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Baikuntha Prasad Aryal, congratulated the awardees in a ceremony held on Friday.

The Australia Awards Scholarships, funded by the Australian Government, offer emerging leaders opportunities for postgraduate study and research. The program aims to equip scholars with new skills, knowledge, and networks, contributing to Nepal’s socio-economic development and strengthening Australia-Nepal relations.

The scholars represent some of Nepal's brightest talent, coming from government, civil society, and the private sector. They will pursue postgraduate degrees at Australia's world-class universities, specializing in diverse fields such as public policy, international relations, economics, agricultural science, ecosystem management, development studies, technology, and human rights.

Acting Education Secretary Aryal praised the recipients, emphasizing that the Australia Awards are more than just scholarships - they serve as bridges of learning and collaboration between Nepal and Australia. “As you thrive in your studies, think about the ways you can give back to Nepal: whether by improving healthcare, advancing education, fostering innovation, or championing social justice,” he said.

Ambassador Johnston highlighted Australia’s commitment to inclusive leadership, stating that over 60% of the 2025 intake scholars come from traditionally marginalized communities. “The Australia Awards’ focus on social inclusion makes it a scholarship that offers opportunity to all,” she said.

The awardees will receive full tuition coverage, return airfare, living expenses support, and medical insurance throughout their studies in Australia.

Applications for the next cycle of Australia Awards Scholarships will open in February 2025.
