KATHMANDU, Dec 21: On Thursday, 17 activists were arrested during a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu.
The activists, who were staging demonstrations against the sale and purchase of Ncell shares, were arrested after they began protesting in the no-protest zone.

Maitighar Mandala has been designated a no-protest zone by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
Among those detained were Krishna Pahadi, Ram Krishna Baral, Uttam Pudasaini, Govind Khanal, Krishna Kandel, Renuka Paudel, Ram Prasad Joshi, Chandra Mani Banjara, Kiran Dhakal, Namrata Kharel, Diwakar Pudasaini, and others. All are members of the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES). The police have held them at the Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap.
During the demonstration, the activists demanded action, alleging the involvement of both current and former prime ministers in the Ncell controversy. They called for an investigation into the visits of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to Singapore, demanding the establishment of a credible judicial inquiry commission in this matter.
