Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhola Rawal of the District Police Office (DPO), Gorkha informed Republica that 15 arrestees have been kept at the DPO for investigation.
A clash had erupted between police and the locals when police reached the incident site to arrest the accused on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the family members and relatives of the deceased vandalized the Area Police Office (APO), Palungtar, accusing police of not taking prompt action against the culprits. They also demanded compensation.
In order to bring the situation under control, police had to fire seven rounds of teargas shells. The DPO deployed additional security personnel in the area as the feud between the two agitating parties got serious.
A group of people demanded proper investigation by keeping the arrestees at the APO while the other side seemed extremely furious over the detention.
“We had no option other than firing teargas shells as the situation went out of control,” said SP Rawal, adding, “However, now the situation is under control. We will take stern action against the accused if their involvement is proved.”
