BAGLUNG: Oct 8: The 13-kilometer road section from Patihalne in Nisikhola Rural Municipality–6 to Rupgas in Bhume Rural Municipality–1 of Eastern Rukum remains incomplete even after a decade, making travel along this route extremely difficult.

The delay has been attributed to the negligence of the construction company, which failed to complete the project within the stipulated time. According to Nabin Kharal, Information Officer at the Mid-Hill Highway Project Office in Dailekh, only 70 percent of the work has been completed so far, even though the contract had stipulated that blacktopping would be finished by May 26, 2016.

The contract for blacktopping this section of the Mid-Hill Highway was valued at Rs 429.9 million. The office has repeatedly extended the deadline and directed the construction company to complete the work as per the agreement, Kharal said.

“Many vehicles now operate on the Mid-Hill Highway, and hundreds of passengers travel along this route daily. All preparations had been made to blacktop the Patihalne–Rupgas section, but as the construction company has long been absent from the site, even the previously built structures have started to deteriorate,” Kharal added.
