KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) on Thursday approved Keshav Baral as the chief commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

After the approval, the government can now appoint Baral to lead the CIAA.[break]

In a hearing on Thursday morning, Baral defended a complaint filed against him and presented his plans for the commission.

The Constitutional Council headed by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had recommended Baral, a former Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police, for the post on January 4.

Baral retired from Nepal Police in September, 2010 after serving for thirty years.

The CIAA is vacant of commissioners since January 4 after the tenure of acting Commissioners Lalit Bahadur Limbu and Bed Prakash Siwakoti expired.
