The attorney office on Monday filed a case at the district court of Kaski against under secretary Surya Prasad Kafle, section officer Pushpa Raj Poudel, ward secretary Rabi Chandra Jamarkattel, among others, for issuing five citizenship certificates on the basis of fake documents.[break]
The attorney office has claimed that those who obtained citizenship by producing fake documents have paid around Rs 500,000 to district administration officials. The attorney office has sought legal action against Kafle, Poudel and Jamarkattel under the Citizenship Act-2063 B.S.
The trio had been dragged into the citizenship forgery case after police arrested Pema Dhandul Gurung and Lamu Sherpa -- possibly Tibetan refugees -- for obtaining Nepali citizenship by producing fake documents. Three others have also been arrested for their possible involvement in the case.
Thuten Gurung, 69, of Charang-2 in Mustang district, who pretended to be the father of Pema and Lamu, was later arrested by the police.
Diki Dolkar Gurung, Yangchen Gurung and Chhiring Yangjom Gurung, who also obtained Nepali citizenship certificates along with Pema and Lamu, are still at large. Peman and Lamu were arrested by the police, when they were applying for US visas.
