The government had sought 100 applications from the Chepang community for 100 houses to be built within this fiscal year. However, JAP has received 1,000 applications.
According to JAP secretariat, the houses would be built in the remote VDCs, including Kakada, Raksirang, Khairang, Sarikhet, Bharta, Kalikatar and Namtar. Under the program, the government would provide Rs 162,000 to each family to build a house and a toilet.
Khem Chepang, facilitator of the housing program, informed that 20 houses in Kakada VDC, 16 in Raksirang, 14 in Bharta, 13 in Kalikatar, 9 in Hadikhola, 5 each in Khirang and Sarikhet, 3 in Manahari and 2 in Namtar VDC will be built under the program.
Bishnu Prasad Sharma, member secretary of the Chepang Housing Program Coordination Committee, informed that 100 out the 1,000 Chepangs will receive the amount for building their houses. According to Sharma, the families will be selected on need basis.
The government had launched JAP in seven VDCs in Makawanpur in the fiscal year 2010/11. Now, the program would be implemented in additional 21 VDCs.
As many as 195 houses were built in the first phase of the program. Similarly, of the 125 houses that the government had planned to build last year 55 are still incomplete.
