KATHMANDU, Aug 30: To make young people explore issues that are relevant to them, YUWA is organizing Youth Studies – a basic six-day course starting from September 6.

The course is a blend of both theoretical and practical knowledge and is targeted at young people aged between 15 to 24 years.[break]

Richa Bhattarai, Vice President of YUWA, said that the program will be basically a combined youth-friendly course and intends to create a youth-friendly environment. The facilitators of the course are the members of YUWA who are also aged between 15 to 24 years.

“The main idea is to provide young people a combined platform where they can learn and share their ideas. Also, we aren’t using the usual imposed traditional teaching methods. This will be something very different as they will get to explore themselves and also various issues,” said Bhattarai.

The organizers believe that while national and international leaders have made commitments to young population in terms of socio-economic wellbeing, the younger generation seems to be unaware of their own age identity and their rights.

Youth Studies, thus, aims to generate young people with conceptual understanding of youth and its issues by using youth-friendly methodologies to seek answers to their problems.

“We’ve prepared a structure to run the course. We’ll be highlighting the issues of the youth and also will be dealing with the issues of global and national policies and its analysis among others. So these will be a combined study in a structural way,” said Kanchan Prasad Kharel, Executive Member of YUWA and also one of the facilitators of the course.

The six-day course will have three hours of class each day, and students studying Social Work, Development Studies, Sociology, Law, Education and other Social Sciences studies are prioritized for applying for the course.

The course will charge Rs 1,000 per person and it will be held at the YUWA Resource Center (YUWA UNIVERSITY) at Min Bhawan in Kharibot.

YUWA is a youth-run and -led organization that works to promote youth participation through empowerment and advocacy.

The classes will run from September 6 to 13, excluding Friday and Saturday, from 3 to 6 pm. Application available at www.yuwa. org.np.

The registration deadline is September 3.
