Women outnumber men to go abroad on dependent visa

Though both men and women rely on this visa to set their foot abroad, the number of women, as per the data, is nearly double that of men.

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: There has been a rise in the number of Nepalis who are going abroad on dependent visas. Though both men and women rely on this visa to set their foot abroad, the number of women, as per the data, is nearly double that of men.


According to the Department of Immigration, a total of 33,909 Nepali went abroad on dependent visas in 2024. Of these, the number of women is 21,794 and that of men is 12,114. Likewise in 2023, a total of 20,613 Nepalis went abroad on dependent visas.

In 2023, at least 8,866 men and 12,527 women went abroad on dependent visas. 13,296 more Nepali people have gone abroad on dependent visas in 2024 compared to the year 2023.


In 2024, more Nepali women than men traveled abroad to meet family members.  The data of the department shows that a total of 131,796 Nepalis went abroad for this purpose, with 77,256 women and 54,531 men. Comparatively, in 2023, 167,485 Nepalis, including 96,673 women and 70,808 men, went abroad to visit family.
