The group killed her while she was sleeping on the verandah of her house at Katahar Chowk, Krishnapur, in Bharatpur-10 on Friday night, District Police Office, Chitwan, said. Locals had found her body on the veranda on Saturday morning.
Police suspect Karki could have been murdered for money as her husband is abroad. Her body is kept at Bharatpur Hospital for post-mortem. She was living with her two sons and a daughter.
Police said they are investigating the murder with the help of locals and searching for the murderers.
Meanwhile, an elderly man was found dead near Harihar Temple in Bharatpur on Friday morning. Police said the man of about 65 years of age is yet to be identified.
The body has been kept at Bharatpur Hospital for postmortem.
