KATHMANDU, June 15: The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested a woman for disturbing ethnic and communal feelings by airing baseless and misleading content on social media platform TikTok.
According to the bureau, Rama Basnet, 31, a permanent resident of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-6 in Khotang and currently residing in Bhaktapur, has been arrested from Bhaktapur.

Basnet had been regularly and plannedly airing baseless and misleading content targeting prominent people and organizations on TikTok. The bureau reportedly initiated a technical analysis and investigation on the basis of complaints that such materials spread negative perceptions about individuals, institutions and sects as well as actively promoted character assassination.
Basnet was arrested after a case was registered under the Electronic Transaction Act, 2063 BS after investigation confirmed her involvement in the criminal activity.
She has been remanded in police custody for three days by the District Court, Kathmandu. The bureau's spokesperson Superintendent of Police Deepak Raj Awasthi told Republica that police surveillance and action would continue against those misusing social media to spread misleading content.
