With 540 new cases, Nepal sees a fresh spike in COVID-19 cases on Thursday

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Nepal recorded 540 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday along with 271 recoveries and one death, according to the latest information provided by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Nepal recorded 540 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday along with 271 recoveries and one death, according to the latest information provided by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).


As many as 12,099 swab samples were tested for COVID-19 on the day. Of them, 498 PCR and 62 antigen tests turned out to be positive for the deadly virus.

There are currently 5,524 active cases of COVID-19 across the country. Among them, 5,069 are in home isolation, 362 in institutional isolation, 79 in ICUs, and 14 on ventilators. Similarly, 113 people are currently in quarantine facilities. So far, 11,602 people have died of the viral disease across the country.


Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 310 cases of the virus on Thursday. Of them, 221 were recorded in Kathmandu, 30 in Bhaktapur, and 59 in Lalitpur districts.
