KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Nepal’s tally of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases surged to 53,120 after a jump of 1,201 fresh infections in the past 24 hours.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), 785 males and 416 females tested positive for this disease of the 10,176 real-time PCR tests carried out at various labs across the country.

As of Saturday, there are 15,260 active cases of the disease who have been kept isolated either at their homes or in various COVID-19 hospitals. Six districts - Sunsari, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Rupandehi and Chitwan – have more than 500 active cases while seven other districts including Solukhumbu, Manang, Mustang, Mygadi, Humla, Dolpa and Mugu do not have a single case as of Saturday, health ministry Spokesperson Dr Jageshwar Gautam said.
A total of 37,524 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered including 852 people in the past 24 hours while cases of fatalities in the country have risen to 336 with 14 more people dying of this disease. While the recovery rate stands at 70.6 percent, the mortality rate is 0.6 percent, according to the data compiled by the ministry.
The Kathmandu Valley, the federal capital of the country, recorded as many as 431 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). With this, the total COVID-19 caseload in the Valley has climbed to 11,139.
