Voting suspended in Namkha, Humla over dispute on hospitalized voters

Monks at Halji Monastery requested that around 5–6 patients inside the monastery be allowed to vote, either via a proxy or by bringing the ballot boxes to the monastery. The election officer, however, stated that taking the ballot boxes outside or allowing proxy voting would violate election rules, triggering a conflict.

KATHMANDU, March 5: Voting at the Sunkhani Primary School polling center in Halji, Namkha Rural Municipality–6, Humla, has been suspended following a dispute over arrangements for hospitalized voters.



Monks at Halji Monastery requested that around 5–6 patients inside the monastery be allowed to vote, either via a proxy or by bringing the ballot boxes to the monastery. The election officer, however, stated that taking the ballot boxes outside or allowing proxy voting would violate election rules, triggering a conflict.

With no agreement reached between local representatives and the election team, the voting process was halted. Authorities and election officials are holding discussions to resolve the issue. Voting will resume only once a consensus is reached, confirmed Ram Prakash Shah, spokesperson for the Karnali Province Police, Surkhet.
