Visa-free provisions for NRN citizens will be introduced soon: FM Deuba

KATHMANDU, Feb 3: Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba has committed to making arrangements to ensure that non-resident Nepalis are not required to obtain a visa after acquiring citizenship through a replacement bill to be presented in parliament.


Minister Deuba, while discussing with a delegation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) at the ministry’s office at Singha Durbar on Sunday, said that the 10-year visa system for those granted non-resident Nepali citizenship is not a temporary arrangement, and pledged to make arrangements to ensure that non-resident Nepalis do not need to obtain a visa after acquiring citizenship.

During the meeting, NRNA President Dr Badri KC also requested that the NRNA Act be brought to the parliament soon. The Foreign Minister Deuba said that the ministry would find a solution through legal means regarding the recent controversy in the NRNA.


Minister Rana said that the ministry will find a solution to the union's dispute based on the two judgments issued by the Supreme Court and the suggestions of the Office of the Attorney General.


The delegation led by President Dr KC has also invited Minister Deuba to participate as the chief guest in the NRNA’s youth conference in Thailand and the regional conference in Cambodia. Minister Deuba has insisted on discussing the dispute with stakeholders regarding the NRNA and calling all parties to the ministry to find a solution to the problem through an informal meeting.


The delegation included the NRNA's Vice President Rojina Pradhan Rai, Co-Treasurer Krishna Timalsina, and Regional Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific region Hari Bhattarai.
