POKHARA, Sept 10: Defense Minister Bidya Devi Bhandari has admitted that it was due to the policy of her own party CPN-UML that the ousted king has been emboldened and intensified his activities in recent days.

Bhandari, who is also the UML´s vice chair, said the former royalties are trying to take advantage of the fluid political situation created due to the parliament´s failure to elect a new prime minister. [break] "The parliament failed to elect new prime minister mainly due to the UML´s neutral position and that eventually emboldened former king and the Maoists," she told reporters at a press meet in Pokhara on Friday.

She said the UML should change its policy as former royalties have begun insulting the political parties for the parties´ failure to elect a new prime minsiter even over two months after Madhav Nepal´s resignation.

"Former king Gyanendra and his son Paras have intensified their activities under the pretext of social work. Therefore UML should end its neutrality and help elect a prime minister," she said.

She clearly said that the UML should vote for Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Ram Chandra Paudel as the Maoists were not sincere toward implementing the Comprehensive Peace Accord. "UML should support a democratic force," she said.
