UDMF enforces shutdown to foil YAN’s function

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 20: The agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) has enforced shutdown in Rangeli Bazaar, the older district headquarters, to sabotage a function to be organized by Youth Association of Nepal (YAN) on Wednesday.

UDMF has called shutdown for today and tomorrow to foil ‘Tarai Awareness Campaign’ of YAN, a youth wing of the ruling CPN-UML.

All the marketplaces have been shuttered and vehicles are off the road, while cadres of the front are seen protesting at major crossings.

A brief scuffle occurred after police prevented the protesters from burning tires.

The situation has now normalized, said Police Inspector Abhichandra Rijal.
