Responding to a letter from the prime minister urging them to end the protest and get involved in political negotiations through dialogue, the UDMF on Sunday said that the government and the major three parties should have clear views on their agendas for fruitful talks. Prime Minister KP Oli on Thursday had formally sent a letter to the agitating parties.
"The UDMF is always in favor of resolving the crisis through talks and it is well known to all that we were involved on formal and informal talks with a team formed by the major three parties during the tenure of the previous government," stated the UDMF in its letter to PM Oli, responding to his call.
"The dialogues could not take positive turn as the talks team of the three parties could not come up with concrete perspectives on the issue of provincial delineation and other matters," states the letter to the PM.
Likewise, the UDMF has clearly stated that they cannot halt the protest programs until their agendas are addressed. "If we stop the ongoing agitation, which has garnered a huge public support, without our agendas being addressed, it would be a betrayal to the people attending the protest programs," the letter further states.
The UDMF has argued that the Madhes movement entered into the phase of general strike and blockade only after the state ignored the agendas and killed four dozen of protestors, injured many and arrested campaigners in huge number.
"The current adverse situation is the result of the state's ignorance to the agendas," stated the UDMF letter.
