KAPILVASTU, June 23: Two women lost their lives on Monday morning when a tractor carrying rice seedlings for plantation fell into a pond in Dohani, of Kapilvastu Municipality-8.
According to Ward Chair Shiva Kumar Pandey, the incident occurred around 10:30 am when the tractor, which was traveling on a newly constructed muddy road, slipped and overturned into the pond. The victims, both named Durgawati Kori, one aged 20 and the other 45, were from West Belauha, ward 8.

The tractor was reportedly carrying six people, including the driver. All were rescued from the water and taken to Kapilvastu Hospital for treatment. However, the two women succumbed to their injuries, while three others are undergoing treatment, confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Mani Adhikari.
The tractor remains submerged, and its registration number has yet to be confirmed. Police said the driver fled the scene, and an investigation is underway to locate him and determine the cause of the accident.
