SURKHET, Aug 6: Members of CPN-UML´s student wing All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) in Surkhet have formed two parallel committees.

Two parallel ANNFSU committees -- one led by Dambar Garanja and another by Tara Prasad Paudel -- have been formed as the district convention held in Birendranagar last month failed to elect the ANNFSU district leadership through consensus.[break]

Garanja claimed that the committee led by him was the legitimate body elected from the convention and termed formation of the Paudel-led committee as "organizational anarchy".

"I don´t know about the activities of those who boycotted the convention," said Garanja. "But I lead the legitimate ANNFSU committee."

He claimed that his committee is recognized by the central committee as ANNFSU Chairman Madhav Dhungel and chief of the Organization Department Rashmi Acharya had also attended the first meeting of his committee.

Paudel, however, claimed that the committee under the leadership of Garanja is not legitimate as it was announced unilaterally. He claimed that 270 of the total 328 representatives at the district convention had elected the committee under his leadership.

He also claimed that the ANNFSU leadership in Bheri Zonal Committee and Surkhet district have recognized his committee.

Local UML leaders are also divided over the matter. While the party´s district secretary Gagan Sunar said Garanja was the legitimate chairman of ANNFSU, another leader Dhurva Kumar Shahi said the row is yet to be settled.
