Tribute paid to CPN founding member Karmacharya

KATHMANDU, July 24:  Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist Pushpakamal Dahal paid tribute to founder of the Communist Party of Nepal, Nar Bahadur Karmacharya who passed away this morning, by covering with party flag on his body.



Leader Karmacharya was undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu Model Hospital, for a few days after suffering from cancer of the bile duct. He died at 5:00 am this morning while undergoing treatment. Leader Karmacharya was a patron of the UCPN-Maoist.[break]



His body was kept at the party´s central office at Paris Danda for paying tribute at 7:30 am today.



NC President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Senior Leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, UML Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam and other leaders also paid tribute to him by offering flowers on the dead body.



Also paying tribute to him were UCPN-Maoist central members Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Narayankaji Shrestha, Posta Bahadur Bogati, Krishna Bahadur Mahara and a large of number of leaders and workers of the party in the valley and relatives.



The party in a condolence statement said it was aggrieved by the death of Karmacharya, at 89, due to cancer of the bile duct.



The party while paying hearty tribute extended deep condolences to the bereaved family and made commitment to reach to socialism and communism for fulfilling his remaining dream.



The party said he was jailed in various times since 2005 BS before establishment of the communist party and was jailed in anti-Rana movement, and workers movement.



He was inspired by the 1949 Chinese revolution, and the Telangana peasants´ rebellion of India. He had established the communist party of Nepal under the leadership of Pushpalal with other members as Narayan Bilas Joshi and Niranjan Govind Baidya in April 22 in 1949 in Bada Bazaar Kolkata.



He was founding chairman of the workers organization after the formation of the communist party and was had taken responsibility of the Lalitpur Municipality Mayor in 2016 BS.



He was elected central member from the third general convention in 2019 BS but remained independent and active in communist movement after split began in the party.



He made unrelenting efforts for unifying divided groups and later became central member in the fourth general convention. He was chairman of the Unity Center ad hoc Committee when Unity Center was formed.



Karmacharya was active for long among the founders of CPN and remained unmarried while moving ahead the interests of the party and revolution. He was worried for the party and revolution and change until last moments of his life.



His body will be taken to Open Air Theater, Tundikhel by going through various parts of town including, Koteswor, Gwarko and his hometown Patan, the party said.



Born in 1981 BS at Kumbheswor of Patan to father Chandra Bahadur Karmacharya and mother Kumari Karmacharya, he was inspired from a local Bharav Gopal Vaidya in politics.



Meanwhile, Chairman of the Interim Election Council, Khil Raj Regmi, today paid tribute to founder of the Comunist Party of Nepal, Nar Bahadur Karmacharya.



Karmacharya died this morning while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital. Chairman Regmi reached the Open-air Threater, Tundikhel, this afternoon to pay tribute to the late Karmacharya.



Similarly, Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Minister for Information and Communications, Madhav Poudel, and Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal also paid tribute to Karmacharya.



Before this, an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers held this morning decided to pay tribute to Karmacharya continuously active in left and democratic movement against Rana regime since 2006 BS.



The meeting also decided to perform Karmacharya´s final rites with state honour in respect of his contribution to the left and democratic movement, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.



Similarly, the cabinet meeting also decided to make arrangements of Nepal Police to carry the body of the deaceased Karmacharya and to present gaurd of honour to him under the command of Police Inspector.
