KATHMANDU, May 27: The government has forwarded different action plans for the revival of the tourism sector of the country, which is in bad shape due to the devastating Gorkha earthquake.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has forwarded works in order to attract tourists by carrying out repair and maintenance as well as reconstruction of the damaged tourism infrastructures due to the devastating quake and its aftershocks.

Newly-appointed Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Kripasur Sherpa, said that works would be expedited by formulating an action plan in order to bring the tourism sector in its previous state within six months.

Minister Sherpa argued that the quake had not quite affected the tourism sector as publicized in the international arena.

"In fact, the quake is estimated to have caused some 15 percent of the overall damage to the tourism sector, which we could recover within six months," the minister said.

Stating that the quake had damaged many historical, cultural monuments and blocked tourism routes, he shared that the government was working at a war footing to create a favorable environment for the tourists visiting Nepal and travelling various tourism destinations across the country. RSS
