KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Ruling Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) has called its standing committee meeting for Friday morning.

The meeting will discuss Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal´s India visit, which begins August 18. The prime minister will brief the party on his agendas of his visit. [break]

The meeting will discuss possible solutions for resolving the ongoing parliament obstructions by the main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist), party secretary Yuvraj Gyawali told myrepublica.com. CPN-UML will also finalize its view regarding the candidate for Constitutional Council chairperson.

The 22 political parties that have supported the present coalition government have decided to propose a common candidate for CC chairperson.

"Our party will give its official view on the candidate after the standing committee meeting," Gyawali said.

The meeting will also discuss the recent row that surfaced after the party´s Kathmandu Valley Coordination Committee dissolved its Kathmandu District Committee.

The district committee has defied the decision of the coordination committee. "We have challenged the decision because a nominated body -- the coordination committee -- cannot dissolve an elected body, the district committee," Rameshwar Phuyal, the party´s Kathmandu District Committee secretary, said.

However, Gyawali said all the party units must follow the decision because it was taken as per the party statute.

"District units of the party have been reorganized across the country. Therefore, a special condition cannot be applied for Kathmandu District Committee," he said.
