Speaking to the media in Baglung, Singh said, “This government in support of Madhesi parties and India wants to cling on to power and impose an authoritarian rule. There’s no alternative to an agitation to oust this government.” [break]
Stating that there would be no outlet for the existing political crisis unless the present government exits, Singh said Nepali nationalism is at risk. “If the same situation continues, Nepal as a republic will further weaken,” he said.
Arguing that the prime minister is not in favor of a national consensus government, he ruled out any early diffusion of the current crisis. He also said there is no possibility of new elections in the immediate future.
“For elections to take place, a consensus government is needed but the Bhattarai-led government seems in no mood of change of guard” he added.
Singh also accused the ruling UCPN (Maoist) of departing from its ‘Marxist, Leninist’ ideals. “Wrong trends are emerging in communists. Maoists are bent on imposing tyranny,” he alleged.
