KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Maternity Hospital at Thapathali, Kathmandu has been facing shortage of live saving medicines since the unofficial blockade imposed by India on Nepal affected the supply of essential goods, including medicines.

The Hospital lacks essential drugs for operating surgery as the supply has been hindered, according to Administrator of the Hospital, Amarnath Amatya. The Hospital lately had been receiving few expecting mothers following the blockade and the medication had been done through the drugs in its store.

But the stock is also likely to run short of medicines within few days, added Amatya. He shared it could hardly last for a week more.

The Hospital has requested with the government hospital to supply oxygen cylinder and other essential medicines.

The daily requirement of the Hospital is 10 cylinder of oxygen gas, one cylinder of cooking gas, 110 litres of diesel and 10 litres of petrol, according to the Administration.

Furthermore, the ambulance services provided by the Hospital have been cut down in lack of fuel.

The 600-bed Hospital which earlier received more than 100 patients has now limited to some 60-70 patients. RSS
