Teachers shut school over 'mistreatment'

UDAYAPUR, Sept 20: A school in Khotang district has been closed following a clash between the teachers and the school management committee.



The teachers themselves had shut down Jalpa Lower Secondary of Kharmi VDC protesting repeated mistreatment and threatenings by Shyam Kumar Rai, chairman of the school management committee. The school has been closed till September 24. [break]



According to Ishwar Rai, the school principal, teachers Rai would humiliate and manhandle teachers in school office and classrooms.



“Shyam threatened the teachers using abusive words for no apparent reason,” said Ishwar.



He said that the school will reopen after discussing the matter with the parents of the students.



There are 320 students studying in the school.



However, District Education Office Khotang informed that it has no information about the school´s closure.
