KATHMANDU, May 9: The meeting of the taskforce under the Special Committee had to be put off for the second consecutive day as two members of the taskforce did not appear for the meeting, raising questions about the seriousness of the taskforce.

The taskforce was supposed to meet at 5pm on Monday but the meeting was called off after taskforce members Ishwar Pokharel and JP Gupta failed to turn up for the meeting. [break]

The meeting of the four-member taskforce, which is entrusted to prepare a modality of integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants by May 15, was also put off on Sunday after Pokharel was out of Kathmandu for a political program. Similarly, Gupta said he could not attend the program because he had to attend some social functions.

The taskforce was formed on March 23, with a mandate to prepare the integration modality and present it before the Special Committee as soon as possible.

But it has failed to make any headway as it has not met more than two times since its formation. Last Friday, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal had directed the taskforce to prepare the modality by the time he returns from Turkey on May 15.
