BHAKTAPUR, July 12: Stray dogs have added to woes of Kathmandu-Bhaktapur six-lane road, which is already struggling to maintain road discipline among vehicle owners.

The six-lane road, on a daily basis, is witnessing road accidents caused by stray dogs as well as cows, according to police. [break]

Vehicles speeding on the road collide with stray dogs and cows and met with accidents, said chief of Bhaktapur Metropolitan Traffic Police Range Inspector Rabindra Shrestha. He said stray dogs were causing nuisance on the road.

According to police records, up to four persons were injured on a single day in separate accidents caused by the unwanted guests on the road. Motorbikes and heavy vehicles are said to be the main victims of the vagabond dogs and cows.

Within the last one month, more than six dogs and one calf were mowed down by moving vehicles daily in an average.

Police say municipality officials, responsible to control the stray dogs and cows, are doing nothing. Bhaktapur and Thimi municipalities haven’t launched any programme to this effect.
