Rana scored 39 points to win the championship played on Stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance. KNS Thapa (38 points) was the runner-up in overall while Rabindra Man Shrestha (35 points) was the second runner-up. [break]
RR Pandey won the first prize among Rotarians with 35 points while Ang Tsering Sherpa was runner-up. Kencho Ongdi Lama won the award of ladies´ winner with 38 points while Els Schapendonk was runner-up in this category. LB Gurung was the winner among seniors and Luniva Shakya won the award of junior winner.
Chief guest of the championship Rotarian Ratna Man Shakya, former president of Nepal Golf Association Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, CEO of Ncell Pasi Koistinen and Rotarian Purna Man Shakya and Tirtha Man Shakya gave away the prizes to the winners.
Paras XI lose practice match
KATHMANDU, March 27: The Nepali cricket team, preparing for the ACC Trophy, on Saturday played a practice match at the TU Cricket Ground, where Deependra XI beat Paras XI by four wickets.
Paras XI, electing to bat first, put up 209 runs in 50 overs losing nine wickets after Mahesh Chhetri contributed unbeaten 97 runs. Mahesh played 148 balls and struck six boundaries in his anchor-knock. Captain Paras Khadka added 32 runs. Deependra Chaudhary, skipper of Deependra XI, and Binod Das took three wickets each.
In reply, Chaudhary struck 54 runs and his team won the match in 45.3 overs losing six wickets and meeting the target with 213 runs on the board. Chaudhary hit two consecutive sixes off Gyanendra Malla´s bowling to end the match on a winning note.
Opener Suvas Khakurel and Naresh Budhair put up 75 runs in the first 15 overs to build the foundation for Deependra XI´s victory. Khakurel made 42 while Budhair added 38 runs to the team´s total. Khadka and Basanta Regmi took two wickets each for Paras XI.
The ACC Trophy will kick off on Wednesday in Kuwait.
Rijal leads NDA
KATHMANDU, March 27: The first general assembly of Nepal Darts Association (NDA) unanimously elected Chandra Prasad Rijal as the president of the 11-member central committee on Saturday.
Umesh Thapa was elected to the post of senior vice-president, and Ishwar Bahadur Gurung and Dinesh Thapa to the post of vice-president and general-secretary respectively. Ramesh Adhikari was chosen as the secretary while Maheshwar Dahal was elected as treasurer.
The 31 participants in the general assembly voted Sunil Shrestha, Raj Kumar Pandey, Kiran Pokharel, Jyoti Ram Pandey and Suresh KC as central committee members.
The first meeting of the newly elected committee nominated Gyan Prasad Pokharel as vice-president while Ishwar Adhikari, Sudarshan Jamar Kattel and Ambir Thapa were nominated as central committee members.
Mountain bike seminar concludes
KATHMANDU, March 27: An eight-day mountain bike coaches´ seminar organized by Nepal Cycling Association (NCA) concluded in the capital on Saturday.
The IOC Olympic Solidarity National Mountain Bike Coaches Clinic, held under technical support from Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) was aimed at producing national level athletes and coaches. Altogether 27 Nepalis, including two women, participated in the seminar held from March 20-27.
British cycling coach Andrew Gillott gave the training and awarded level-one certificates to the successful participants. During the closing ceremony of the training, NCA President Chimi Urgen Gurung said that UCI has told Nepal to host the Mountain Bike World Championships in 2012.
The training was sponsored by the International Olympic Committee and the Nepal Olympic Committee.
