SPORTS BRIEFS: Kyokushin Association rewards Lama

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Nepal Kyokushin Karate Do Association (Matsui Group) and its sub-branch Mitra Youth awarded cash incentives to Jyoti Lama, who claimed silver medal in the 13th Asian Men´s and Women´s Open Weight Category Full-contact Karate Championship held in India in the second week of December. Association organized a function on Friday and awarded Rs 25,000 to Lama.



On the same occasion, Mitra Sub-branch awarded Lama Rs 25,101. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama handed over the checks. She had defeated Indonesian and Philippine opponents but lost to a player from Singapore in the final. [break]



National wins title



KATHMANDU
: National Campus won the title of the Benoj Memorial Fifth Inter College (+2) Boys´ Basketball Tournament on Friday. National edged past Trinity International College 60-48 in the final played in the National Sports Council Covered Hall. Sashwat Singh scored 21 points for the winning side. National received Rs 55,555 while Trinity bagged Rs 33,333. GoldenGate International beat Bridgewater 58-41 and got Rs 11,111.



Prajun Pokharel of National Campus was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament, organized by CPN (Maoist) sister wing ANFSU (Revolutionary).
