SPORTS BRIEFS: Greenland beats Hebron

KATHMANDU, July 20: Greenland School thrashed Hebron Academy 35-7 in the opening match of the 4th PABSON Kathmandu Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.



In the matches played at the court of Bagmati Morden School, Sukedhara, Greenwich Academy saw off National Pioneer 30-17. Kathmandu English School routed HEMS 24-2 while Brihaspati defeated Mount Glory 26-13. [break]



Innovative overcame VS Niketan 39-31 while Daffodial hammered Swati Sadan 62-16 with 21 points from Sanjay. Nima Sherpa contributed 19 points for Valley Public as it registered a narrow margin win over Prithvi School with a score of 30-28. In the last match of the day, North Point Academy beat REED Model 30-23.



GoalNepal.com donates in memory of Lama


KATHMANDU: GoalNepal.com donated Rs 10,000 to Mangal Dwip Boarding School, Bauddha on Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of Jigme Gyaltsen Lama’s death. Lama had died of cardiac arrest on July 5 last while playing football during the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament. GoalNepal.com’s CEO Bikram Thapa handed over the amount to the school’s principal, Lama Sangye Tsering, during a function organized by the school at its meeting hall. The donated amount will be used for buying football jerseys for the school football team. The event started with a minute of silence in memory of the late Lama. Speaking on the occasion, Thapa said, “We have also included the Jigme Gyaltsen Lama Award in GoalNepal Football Award, which will be held in the last month of Nepali year 2068.”
