At a press conference organized on Thursday, Royal Bhutan Airlines and Gokarna Golf Club informed that the first day of the tournament will be an open competition and will be played over 18 holes in stableford format with ¾-handicap allowance. The second and final day of the tournament will feature a match play between Bhutan and Nepal in four-ball format.[break]
"Hundred golfers, including 20 players from Bhutan, will contest on the first day while the second day´s event will feature 20 players each from Bhutan and Nepal," said Deepak Acharya, senior golf director of the Gokarna Golf Club.
According to the organizers, there are prizes for the winner, runner-up, ladies´ winner, ladies´ runner-up, senior winner, best gross, junior winner, longest drive, closest to the pin and most birdies. Winners will receive trophies and complimentary air tickets from Druk Air.
"This is the beginning and the tournament may go on for the next few years," said Sonam Wangchuk, the marketing manager of Druk Air.
Bauddha Dojo wins karate tourney
KATHMANDU: Bauddha Dojo on Thursday won the title of 10th Bagmati Zonal Karate Tournament securing eight gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Lainchaur Dojo finished second with three golds, as many silvers and six bronzes, while the host, Nepal Shito-ryu Karate Do, Naxal, settled for the third position with three golds, two silvers and seven bronzes.
Kusum Khadka of Bauddha and Ashish Pal of Naxal were adjudged the best players in women´s and men´s sections, respectively.
Nepali players clean sweep kata golds
KATHMANDU: Nepali players made a clean sweep in kata to clinch four golds during the Second Fazilatunnesa Mujib International Karate Championship on Thursday. Subhadra Shrestha won the women´s singles kata and Parshuram Shrestha secured gold in the men´s singles kata during the tournament which is being held in Dhaka.
Likewise, Nepali women´s team comprising Subhadra Shrestha, Chanchala Danuwar and Sangeeta Dangol won the title of team kata during the international event in which 12 countries are participating. The men´s team also fetched gold for Nepal. Mandekaji Shrestha, Ganesh Bahadur Thing and Kedar Bahadur Simkhada had represented Nepal in the men´s team kata. Nepali players will compete in kumute events from Friday, according to the Nepali team´s coach Deepak Shrestha.
