SPORTS BRIEFS: CAN receives award

KATHMANDU, July 4: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has received the Asian Regional Development Program Annual Award from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the best overall cricket development program.



The award falls under PEPSI ICC Development Program Annual Awards. [break]The award was conferred to Nepal during the ICC and ACC´s annual meeting held in Hong Kong from June 26-30. Binay Raj Pandey, president of CAN, received the award from ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat.



Ghale wins chess title


KATHMANDU: Tara Ghale won the title of women´s category in the Annapurna Cup Second National Chess Championship on Monday. Ghale accumulated 6.5 points after the completion of the seventh and last round. Ghale defeated Asmita Adhikari and Bina Jaiswal in the sixth and seventh rounds respectively.



Likewise, Rupesh Jaiswal clinched the title of men´s U-19 and Raj Prajapati stood first in the men´s U-15 category. Jaiswal remained unbeaten and accumulated seven points in the championship. Prajapati also produced cent percent winning record in the championship. The tournament was organized by Annapurna Higher Secondary School and supported by Nepal Chess Association.
