CHITWAN, Feb 15: Illegal trading of petroleum products through Thori is going unabated even though border obstruction has been lifted and supply of petroleum products from India is becoming normal.

Though movement of petroleum products through Thori has reduced, it has not stopped. Smugglers are still bringing fuel through Thori customs of point of Parsa.

Located 82 kilometers south from Chitwan district headquarters of Bharatpur, Thori has remained a popular route to smuggle petroleum products and LP gas to Nepal from India ever since the southern neighbor imposed unofficial blockade.

It is estimated that smugglers brought around 150,000 liters of petroleum products a day to Nepal from India through this customs point. Fuel smuggled through would reach to markets in Pokhara, Kathmandu and Chitwan.

"Smugglers have stopped bringing fuel from India. But we can still see people coming to collect fuel stored in Thori," Sub Inspector at Area Police Office Khem Bahadur Tamang told Republica.

Petrol is available in Thori at Rs 125 per liter. It used to be sold at as high as Rs 200 per liter during blockade.
