Sirsiya dry port resumes as police remove protestors

BIRGUNJ, Jan 29: Transportation at the Sirsiya dry port has come into operation after security personnel removed protestors from the border point on Friday.

The imports and exports had been disrupted since yesterday afternoon following the demonstration by the Hindu devotees known as Kanwariyas at Sirsiya Chowk.

dryportb"The obstruction has been removed without force. Kanwariya devotees left the Sirsiya Chowk after the security personnel reached the junction, said Chief District Office of Parsa District Keshav Raj Ghimire.

Sirsiya dry port has been an alternative road for exports and imports after the agitating Madhesi parties blocked Birgunj-Raxual custom checkpoint on September 24. As many as 300,000 tons of goods have entered Nepal via this dry port in the last three months.

Agitating Madhesi parties were also trying to obstruct transportation at the dry port of late. In a latest bid to obstruct the transportation of goods, Madhesi cadres had used the devotees to stage demonstration at Sirsiya Chowk.
