He has already worked as CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Afghanistan.

"His recent role as the Regional Head, Development Organizations, Southern Asia, perhaps best portrays his values and commitment toward supporting development aid and reconstruction efforts," the statement added.

Silvanus holds a post-graduate degree in management and an honors degree in economics.

“In his new role, Silvanus will play a key role in overall governance, compliance, robust management of the country´s balance sheet and overall performance and reputation of the bank,” the bank said in the statement.

The post was lying vacant after Sujit Mundul retired in May, 2011 after spending over 38 years with Standard Chartered Bank.
