Shree Ram Sugar Mill to begin paying farmers from today

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Amid continuing protests and demonstrations, one of the sugar mills that owes millions of rupees to the agitating sugarcane farmers has announced to clear their outstanding dues from Friday.

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Amid continuing protests and demonstrations, one of the sugar mills that owes millions of rupees to the agitating sugarcane farmers has announced to clear their outstanding dues from Friday.


Shree Ram Sugar Mill, one of the four sugar industries not paying the farmers, has announced to clear the outstanding dues of sugarcane farmers from Friday.

The decision to pay the farmers with their dues came following the arrest warrant issued by the Home Ministry against operators of those Sugar Mills not clearing the dues.


In a press statement, Shree Ram Sugar Mill said it owes 259,053,525 to the farmers. The Mill has also committed to clear the due amount by Dec 23.


Shree Ram Sugar Mill, Annapurna Sugar Mill, Indira Sugar Mill and Lumbini Sugar Mill are the Sugar Industries failing to pay the Sugarcane farmers.


The agitated farmers have been staging a sit-in protest in Kathmandu since Sunday.
