Sharad’s team secures third win in row

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Samsad Ansari's seven-wicket haul helped Nepal Orange, led by national team batsman Sharad Vesawkar, record third consecutive win in the Super League cricket as the team beat Nepal Red, captained by national team skipper Paras Khadka, by 10 runs on Wednesday at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kirtipur.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is holding the event to select players for the two List A (50-over) matches of the ICC World Cricket League Championship against Papua New Guinea scheduled for November 16 and 18 in the UAE.


After posting a moderate target of 181 runs Nepal Orange bowled Nepal Red out on 170 in 38.4 overs as Samsad picked up seven wickets giving away only 28 runs in 6.4 overs.

Samsad, who hails from Sarlahi and is a player of Region No 7 (Janakpur), had claimed last six wickets alone.

Nepal Red failed to achieve the target despite six batsmen reaching double figures and Anil Kumar Mandal, who scored 22 runs facing 42 balls, shared 49 runs for the second wicket with Sagar Pun, who contributed 34 runs off 54 balls after losing opener Paresh Lohani for a duck.

Similarly, Dilip Nath, who top scored with 36 runs off 31 balls, added 44 runs with Kumar Thapa (16 off 18) for the eighth wicket.

Earlier, being invited to bat first, Nepal Orange put 180/10 in 48.4 overs with Suraj Kurmi's half century.

Nepal Orange started its inning in a shaky manner, losing opener Fazlur Rahman Khan (1) in the 1.4 overs with only six runs on the board. However Subash Khakurel, who scored 34 runs off 65 balls, shared 68 runs stand for the second wicket with Suraj, who scored 65 runs facing 128 balls that included eight fours. Suraj faced 109 balls to complete his half century.

Suraj added 28 runs for the third wicket with skipper Sharad Vesawkar, who scored 20 run-a-ball, and shared 50 runs for the fourth wicket with Antim Thapa, who contributed 20 runs facing 44 balls.

Sagar pocketed five wickets and Yagyaman Kumal took three wickets for Nepal Red.

Nepal Orange, which gained six points from three matches, beat Nepal Grey by seven wickets in its opener on Sunday and also recorded seven-wicket win over Nepal Green on Tuesday.
