Vinod Sagtani, chairman of home appliances trading company Sagtani Exim Pvt Ltd, also announced that the tournament will be an annual event at the Gokarna Golf Club. "This is a beginning. We´ll also go for a professional event from the next year," said Sagtani.[break]
According to Senior Golf Director of Gokarna Deepak Acharya, the amateur event this year will feature 110 golfers including men, women, senior and junior golfers. "Junior golfers will contest on Friday while the rest will vie for the title on Saturday," said Acharya.
The SG Championship will be played over 18 holes, on a stable ford format with 3/4 handicap.
Winners of both men´s and women´s category will receive a washing machine each and runner-up, the best gross, junior winner, senior winner and ladies runner-up will get a microwave each.
"Golf is not major sports in Nepal but we can make it. Meanwhile, golf has a standard and we are more attracted to it," said Sagtani revealing the reason behind sponsoring the event.
"It is our pleasure to be associated with the sport, we want to join the bandwagon through our sponsorship for the growth of golf in the country," he added.
