KATHMANDU, Jan. 4: The seventh deadline served by the President to the political parties to pick a consensus prime ministerial candidate and council of ministers under his/her leadership for the formation of a national unity government on the basis of Article 38 (1) of the Interim Constitution ended on Friday without making any headway.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had extended the deadline for the seventh time on December 30, 2012 for the parties to form the national unity government. However, the latest deadline too passed away with the parties doing nothing serious and concrete to make any headway. [break]

The President had given a weeklong deadline to the parties to form the national unity government for the first time on November 23.

Political uncertainty is on the rise as the ruling and opposition parties have not budged an inch from their respective position.

Recently, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ´Prachanda´ and Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai proposed leadership of an apolitical figure arguing that both the Nepali Congress and UCPN (Maoist) were reluctant to accept one another´s leadership.

However, the CPN (UML) continues to back the NC leadership for the new government.
