NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat argued that even the transfers that were made against the existing system need to be revoked to ensure free and fair polls. “Those receiving political appointments should have already resigned on moral grounds. But that has not happened yet,” Dr Mahat said, asking the Interim Election Council to scarp their appointments.
Dr Mahat´s remarks come in the wake of erstwhile Bhattarai-led government making key appointments and transfers in various ministries and other government bodies towards the end of his tenure as the prime minister. The appointments and transfers cannot be revoked once the government announces a date for fresh polls.
Dr Mahat also suggested inducting more members in the High Level Political Committee after holding talks with the disgruntled parties to ensure polls on time.
UML Secretary Shanker Pokharel claimed that there cannot free and fair election until those politically appointed by the Bhattarai-led government resign. He said the current Interim Election Council should scrap all such decisions to avoid unwanted influence in the election.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction over the decision of the High Level Political Committee to recommend Lok Man Singh Karki as the chief of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Pokharel suggested to party leaders to keep in mind the constitutional provisions.
On the occasion, both Mahat and Pokharel stressed on giving full shape to the Election Commission at the earliest and hold election to resolve the protracted political deadlock. They also termed the CJ-led government an extra-ordinary measure taken to bail the country out of the prolonged political deadlock.
