KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered Pratik Thapa, accused of being involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, to submit a statement in his defense. A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla issued the order on Monday.
Pratik Thapa, the son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, had filed a petition at the SC challenging the decisions of the Patan High Court and the Kathmandu District Court to send him to pre-trial detention. According to SC spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel, the court has ordered additional documentation after hearing Thapa's petition.

Thapa was arrested on June 28 in connection with the case. After the Kathmandu District Court ordered his pre-trial detention, Thapa appealed to the Patan High Court. When the High Court upheld the district court's decision, he filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking bail.
