KAVREPALANCHOK, April 16: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to close the brick kilns operating in Panchkhal Municipality in Kavrepalanchok district. The apex court ordered the closure of brick kilns, citing their serious impacts on the environment and public health.
The locals had filed a writ petition in the SC on December 30, 2019, making Panchkhal Municipality, the Ministry of Forests and Environment, the Ministry of Education, and the Department of Archaeology the defendants.
Around 40 percent brick industries shut across the country
At present, eight brick kilns are in operation in Panchkhal. Meanwhile, Panchkhal Municipality has adopted a policy to promote industries, including brick kilns, in a corrective manner by formulating an environmental policy, according to a press release issued by the SC on Tuesday.
