Around 9,000 people died and more than 20,000 were injured in the 7.6-magnitude quake on April 25, 2015 and its subsequent aftershocks.

The KMC, earlier on the second anniversary of the quake, had planted several types of saplings in the Singha Durbar area in memory of those killed in the quake.

In today's afforestation program, KMC ward no 26 Chair Khem Raj Tiwari inaugurated the event said that growing the sapling into tress was also the KMC's responsibility.

Present at the event were the former ward chairs, members of the KMC executive members and people's representatives from the ward no 26 as well as members of the public.

The KMC is to launch the similar drive in other 34 wards in memory of the quake victims. RSS
